CPAPs and AutoCPAPs - Info guide
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is a common and serious sleep disorder that causes you to stop breathing during sleep. The airway repeatedly becomes blocked, limiting the amount of air that reaches your lungs. When this happens, you may snore loudly or make choking noises as you try to breathe. Your brain and body become oxygen deprived and you may wake up several times a night, or in more severe cases, several hundred times a night.
Symptoms include:
• Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
• Loud snoring
• Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
• Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
• Restless sleep, morning headaches
• Forgetfulness and mood changes
• Recurrent awakenings or insomnia
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
CPAPs provide a non-invasive way of maintaining an open airway while you are asleep. The pressurized supply of air is delivered through a tubing and mask, creating an air splint to keep the airways open. The filters in the CPAP keeps the air clean.
Using a CPAP Machine could help with:
• Increased energy, attentiveness and effectiveness at work or at home
• Decreased risk of strokes and heart attacks
• Lower blood pressure

MACHINE
CPAP
CPAP delivers a fixed set pressure. Throughout the night, the pressure delivered is constant and does not change.
Auto-CPAP
Auto CPAP delivers the required pressures automatically depending on the degree of obstruction. This ensures a more comfortable sleep as higher pressures are delivered only when needed.

Recording
A removable SD Card is available to download data onto your computer. You would be able to track what happens when you sleep in detail and also access reports to show your doctor at your next appointment.
Humidifying
options
As the Singapore climate is highly humid, usually we do not encourage the use of a humidifier as condensation may form in the tubings. However, if the therapy is causing persistent dryness, you may choose to attach a humidifier to make the air more moist for better comfort.
